Hi, there.
Welcome to HJR Writing & Editing.
My name is Hailey Rudd. I am a writing and editing professional who has experience with a plethora of writing styles from fiction to marketing communications to grant writing and more. I have a keen eye for detail and a love of proper grammar (gerunds are my jam, y’all).
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English, with a focus in Creative Writing, from Lee University, graduating summa cum laude, and I have since gained several years of hands-on writing and editing experience in my work with nonprofit organizations, corporations, and individuals.
In my free time, I am very involved with my church, and I enjoy baking, spending time with friends, and taking my dog, Sally, to the park.
I am a lover of stories, whatever the form, and I would love to help you tell yours!
My inspiration.
I love stories; I always have. They’re an incredible tool that allows us to connect with one another and create community. We were made to tell stories - to reflect the Truth of our Creator by sharing that which is common to us all through stories.
Stories allow us to understand, to empathize, and to feel as though we’ve experienced events, places, and people who are foreign to us. They’re an escape, a thrill, a comfort, and so much more.
One of the writers I’m most inspired by is Mary Shelley. She said this of Frankenstein, “I busied myself to think of a story… one which would speak to the mysterious fears of our nature, and awaken thrilling horror—one to make the reader dread to look round, to curdle the blood, and quicken the beatings of the heart. If I did not accomplish these things, my ghost story would be unworthy of its name.”
This quote made me want to become a writer - there is power in words. Power to make people feel, to connect them, to share those deepest of truths. To be a steward of this power is an awesome responsibility and an incredible gift. One I’d like to share with you.
The Villa Diodati in Geneva, Switzerland where Mary Shelley and her friends held their infamous story contest - wherein she got the idea for and penned the first draft of Frankenstein.
